DOH and DTI host fora on tobacco regulation

Koronadal City (February 05, 2010) - The local offfices of the departments of trade and industry (DTI), and of health (DOH) have joined hands to heightened the campaign in the implementation of Republic Act No. 9211, otherwise known as Tobacco Regulation Act of 2003.
"This is relative to the state policies to protect the populace from hazardous products; promote the right to health and instill health consciousness; to promote the general welfare, as well as to safeguard the interest of stakeholders in the tobacco industry," according to DTI 12 Regional Director Ibrahim K. Guiamadel.
"We are glad that we have the Bloomerg Initiative, a project which is being implemented by our Health Policy Development and Planning Bureau, which its thrust is to advocate people's health consciousness on tobacco smoking," added by DOH 12 Regional Director Abdullah Dumama.
Officials of the above agencies revealed that an Inter-Agency Meeting on Tobacco Regulation will be held on February 17, 2010 in this city.  Likewise, it was announced that a related forum will be hosted on the following day, February 18, 2010 with industry stakeholders as target participants.
